Inky extracted color in the glass going to lighter purple on the rim. Notes of woody spice, dark plum, blueberry, and hints of strawberry on the nose. Concentrated ripe cherry and jammy dark fruit hit the palate with silky tannins; medium acid. A complex, but smooth finish. Well done.

I really liked this wine. Easy drinking and quite a bargain. Didn't need to be open forever to get the full flavor profile, but a little time helped. Would buy again.

2007 Cellars Can Blau Red Blend Montsant Spain"The 2007 Can Blau is purple-colored with a nose of cedar, mineral, baking spices, blueberry, and black cherry. This leads to a full-bodied wine with layers of flavor, enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years, and a pure, fruit-filled finish. It will be at its peak from 2010 to 2018." 90+ptsWAA blend of old vine Carignan, Syrah, and Grenache planted on clay and slate soils, it reveals an inky ruby/purple color, a classic raspberry and black cherry bouquet, medium body, wonderful minerality and definition, and surprising freshness as well as intensity for its price.

Big and dark, and it comes with no shortage of prune, blackberry, smoky oak and depth. A lusty flavor profile filled with blackberry, cola, clove and chocolate is stout and satisfying, while the dark finish sports licorice and bitter cacao. Forthright and chunky wine. Drink now into 2011.

Dark purple. Sexy aromas of blackberry, blueberry, Asian spices and smoked meat. Supple and open-knit, with sweet dark berry preserve flavors, velvety texture and good mineral bite. Manages to be both nervy and concentrated, with very good finishing clarity and cut. Leaves strong blue fruit notes behind and repeats the spicy quality.

Crisp acidity and toasty oak frame bright cherry, cocoa, leaf and mint flavors in this brisk, medium-bodied red. A bit raw, but lively and focused. Mazuelo, Syrah and Garnacha. Drink now through 2011.

Smoky and herbal aromas wreathe cherry and light earthy flavors in this restrained red, which has good grip, opening to plum and licorice and on the finish. Drink now through 2012.

The 2006 Can Blau is one of the finest values in the marketplace. Composed of 40% Carinena, 40% Syrah, and 20% Garnacha, this purple-colored wine has great aromatics for the price point. It offers up smoke, pain grille, pencil lead, scorched earth, blueberry, black cherry, and blackberry. Balanced, round, and ripe on the palate, the wine already reveals some complexity and enough structure to blossom for another 2-3 years. Drink this lengthy effort over the next 6-8 years.

A fabulous value from the other side of the famed Priorat appellation (the frugal person's Priorat?), this dense ruby/purple-colored 2004 exhibits wonderful minerality along with beautiful raspberry and blueberry fruit notes interwoven with liquid slate/rock-like characteristics. Medium-bodied with gorgeously pure fruit, this blend of Carignan, Syrah, and Grenache is ideal for drinking now and over the next 5-6 years. There is even more good news as 6,500 cases are exported to the USA.
