A touch meaty and spicy at first but this quickly shows it’s true colors adding strong notes of cocoa to the nose over a base of fresh and dried plummy fruit. On the palate this is a bit drying, showing noticeably wood tannin, but underneath that is a soft, round, medium bodied wine with nice bright fruit. The tannins are aggressive right through the mid-palate and while not really very tannic, they do remain the focus of attention. On the backend flavors of spicy cinnamon and allspice emerge as the fruit begins to assert itself, but the tannin win the battle as they recover the fruit on the finish. Aromatically there is a lot to like here and even on the palate there are glimpses of a nice, fresh, red plummy wine lurking under the tannins, but this needs some time to allow the tannins to soften and integrate. 86pts

The fruit is a bit on the candied side with a sweet raspberry and red plum core that has notes of mint and chocolate adding interest. The tannins gain traction on the backend and through the moderately long candied red fruit, mint and coffee tinged finish. 87pts

Great spicy attack and ripe ripe ripe cherry finish.
Warm dark ruby, aromas of red stone fruits and tobacco, black cherry, black plum notes framed by firm tanning on the back of good acidity to a long, focused finished. Not a wimpy Merlot, but not a bruiser either.
A popular fruity wine with people in general. Great nicer party wine.

A huge staff favorite. This wine is soft and packed with cherry flavors, with vanilla notes on the nose and a touch of chocolate on the palate. Pass on dessert: you can just have another glass.
Has mocha and vanilla flavors, but also an edge of sourness. It's plump in the mouth, with soft tannins; oak is heavy on the finish.

Wonderfully delicious year after year, the 2000 Blackstone is filled with ripe blackberry and raspberry fruit, a core of toasty oak, and a silky mouthfeel. The mild tannins and somewhat off-dry finish make this a great choice by itself or paired with grilled vegetables or classic roast chicken.
Very dry, somewhat tannic, and with jammy plum, currant and herb flavors, this wine is a good value in a full-bodied dinner red. It's balanced and fresh, and the somewhat sharp acids will cut through lamb or steak.

Our 2007 Winemaker’s Select Merlot is a fruit-forward, expressive wine with vivid and accessible flavors. Carefully selecting vineyards that showcase the nuances of the Merlot grape variety help achieve our goal of crafting a distinctive California red wine. In 2007 the weather was very dry. The vineyards saw a minimal amount of rain, and temperatures remained cool throughout the winter and spring. The mild winter and spring delayed bud break and extended the harvest overall, enabling the fruit to develop slowly. Yields were significantly smaller than past vintages, but the quality of the fruit was excellent. Our 2007 Blackstone Winemaker’s Select Merlot displays toasted oak and brown sugar aromas followed by bright raspberry and plush black cherry flavors. Round and expressive, this complex but accessible wine pairs perfectly with beef tenderloin, wild mushroom stew, or planked salmon.
