Blackstone Winery Merlot Napa Valley 2006
rich fruit aromas, elegance, supple oak characters and soft tannins. With lifted dark cherry and berry aromas and a touch of spicy clove, this wine is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. The texture is ripe and soft in the mouth, with bright cherry fruit flavors and a soft, lingering finish. Blackstone Merlot will pair nicely with rack of lamb, grilled burgers and tomato-based pasta dishes.
Dark purple in the glass. This wine was very fruit-forward and made in the usual big, round California style. Berry fruit flavors predominate on the nose and the palate. Some oak can be found as well. Not overly complex. Medium tannins. The finish lingered for a moment. The alcohol was a little hot in this wine, maybe a result of its youth. We had this wine with a dinner of prime rib, which seemed to complement the wine well enough. I think that the best role for this wine would be a table wine to be enjoyed with food. Good but not outstanding.
It's nothing special, but it's very smooth, there's nothing to dislike, and a solid merlot at this price.
Cherry and vanillin oak aromas, lead into a palate of vanilla, black fruits, and oak. Perfectly respectable, not very exciting.
Something disjointed about this. Earthy and burnt coffee aromas, with a touch of rubber. Cranberry palate, oddly high-toned given the aromas. Doesn't hang together.
Cherry and berry on the nose, bright berry, blackberry on the tongue with a nice oaky finish. Smooth. Nice.
Wonderful value for the price. You should not be disappointed.
Blackstone's California Merlot is an acceptable option, though you can probably do a little better for the price. Can be a bit astringent and flat.

A huge staff favorite. This wine is soft and packed with cherry flavors, with vanilla notes on the nose and a touch of chocolate on the palate. Pass on dessert: you can just have another glass.
Wine Tasting Noteshe Blackstone Sonoma Reserve Merlot offers pleasing aromas of fresh raspberry, black currant, clove and vanilla with a hint of earthiness. The wine is full-bodied with layers of bright red fruit, coffee and clove, finished with nice, well-integrated structure and a velvety mouthfeel.
