Black Opal established in 1986, comes from a place of untamed territories and unspoiled land. This is Australia. The land they call "Oz". The land down under. Brimming with life, Australia is a dreamland rich in culture, diversity and natural history. This is apparent in the crystal blue skies above, in the red landscape, even the glistening opal, and a gem that dates back 60 million years. The Black Opal wines are sourced from vineyards found in South Australia along the Limestone Coast, at Langhorne Creek and in the infamous Barossa Valley. The Limestone Coast vineyards are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and Merlot. The region, known for producing reds of outstanding quality is rich with the famous "Terra Rossa" soil, which overlays a hard layer of limestone. Cabernet Sauvignon is a star performer on the Limestone Coast - producing Black Opal wines with a distinctive blackcurrant and cassis aroma. Langhorne Creek is another famous region for red wines. Southeast of Adelaide, the region boasts Cabernet and Shiraz with characteristic "chocolate mint" aromas and an incredible richness in flavor. The Barossa Valley is one of Australia's oldest and most famous wine-producing areas. Established in the 1840s, it has built a reputation for producing powerful Shiraz based wines and full flavored Chardonnay. Read less

I usually prefer white, but this paired really well with food and was fruity and spicy.

The fruitiness and spice of this wine are wonderful. It has a rich flavor while the tannins are mild. I give it a 4 for a rating.

Black Opal Shiraz is dense in color with a violet rim. Ripe berry fruits along with fig and raisin add to the complex cedar aromas. The palate is soft plum with a dark fruit richness. The tannins are fine and supple making a round, mouth-filling wine. - Winery

Supple and ripe with generous, spicy, anise-scented black cherry aromas and flavors. A pleasingly quaffable style, suitable for a variety of dishes.

Smooth and enticing aromas of warm black fruit and vanilla go a long way toward rolling out the welcome mat. Those scents get backing from a structured palate of cherry and pomegranate, while the straight-ahead finish is clean, even if it doesnrsquo;t offer a whole lot of complexity or texture.

Dark in color, with juicy blackberry and light herbal flavors on a relatively light frame. Made for early drinking, but it has more oomph than most in the style, and a friendly price, too. Drink now.

On the light side, with simple plum and spice flavors on a smooth frame. Drink now.

Light and zippy, with a tart edge to the ripe berry flavors. Drink now.
