Black Opal Chardonnay 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

A variety of premium vineyard sites throughout South Eastern Australia were chosen for this wine. Fruit was selected for its color and flavor intensity. Following harvesting, careful crushing and pressing ensured limited skin contact to enhance character whilst retaining subtlety. Some portions of fruit were fermented with French and American oak to develop complexity. The 2007 Black Opal Chardonnay is bright straw in color. Aromas of peach, melon and citrus develop into a crisp and delicious finish.

Black Opal established in 1986, comes from a place of untamed territories and unspoiled land. This is Australia. The land they call "Oz". The land down under. Brimming with life, Australia is a dreamland rich in culture, diversity and natural history. This is apparent in the crystal blue skies above, in the red landscape, even the glistening opal, and a gem that dates back 60 million years. The Black Opal wines are sourced from vineyards found in South Australia along the Limestone Coast, at Langhorne Creek and in the infamous Barossa Valley. The Limestone Coast vineyards are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and Merlot. The region, known for producing reds of outstanding quality is rich with the famous "Terra Rossa" soil, which overlays a hard layer of limestone. Cabernet Sauvignon is a star performer on the Limestone Coast - producing Black Opal wines with a distinctive blackcurrant and cassis aroma. Langhorne Creek is another famous region for red wines. Southeast of Adelaide, the region boasts Cabernet and Shiraz with characteristic "chocolate mint" aromas and an incredible richness in flavor. The Barossa Valley is one of Australia's oldest and most famous wine-producing areas. Established in the 1840s, it has built a reputation for producing powerful Shiraz based wines and full flavored Chardonnay. Read less

Good chardonnay, most everyone thought it was very drinkable. Our designated red wine only friends were not as thrilled.

Very mild -- right up my alley. LOVED it!
