Black Opal established in 1986, comes from a place of untamed territories and unspoiled land. This is Australia. The land they call "Oz". The land down under. Brimming with life, Australia is a dreamland rich in culture, diversity and natural history. This is apparent in the crystal blue skies above, in the red landscape, even the glistening opal, and a gem that dates back 60 million years. The Black Opal wines are sourced from vineyards found in South Australia along the Limestone Coast, at Langhorne Creek and in the infamous Barossa Valley. The Limestone Coast vineyards are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and Merlot. The region, known for producing reds of outstanding quality is rich with the famous "Terra Rossa" soil, which overlays a hard layer of limestone. Cabernet Sauvignon is a star performer on the Limestone Coast - producing Black Opal wines with a distinctive blackcurrant and cassis aroma. Langhorne Creek is another famous region for red wines. Southeast of Adelaide, the region boasts Cabernet and Shiraz with characteristic "chocolate mint" aromas and an incredible richness in flavor. The Barossa Valley is one of Australia's oldest and most famous wine-producing areas. Established in the 1840s, it has built a reputation for producing powerful Shiraz based wines and full flavored Chardonnay. Read less

Well balanced in an off-dry style, this pleasing Chardonnay has flavors of fresh pineapple and red apple. It's a touch floral and sweet, this it finishes clean, a refreshing balance for barbecued chicken.

Ripe fruit scents of pineapple and clove introduce the wine, then the flavors of oak come smoking into the finish. nicely made in a full, soft, sweetly oaked style.

Youthful and fresh, offering appealing pear, apricot and spice aromas and flavors, but the finish is a little raw. May be best after 1993.

A heavyweight wine, loaded with cooked pear and apple flavors and accented by mint and cream. Like a real-life heavyweight, it's a bit ponderous in this crowd, albeit packed with flavor.

Named after Australia's most famous and beautiful gemstone, this wine is dry yet wonderfully flavored, displaying attractive peach-like aromas and balanced oak character.

This gem of a Chardonnay is a perfect example of the many good quality, inexpensive wines available from this region. The use of malolactic fermentation and three months of aging in French oak results in a soft, balanced Chardonnay with a nose of peaches and cream, and rich, long flavors of pear and melon, leaving with a clean, refreshing finish. Youthful and enticing, drink now!
