A bit creamy and lightly cheesy on the nose with almond notes accenting the apple and lime pith fruit. Soft with some marshmallow and powdered sugar early on the palate followed by a round, indistinct mid-palate that offers up some sweet vaguely peach and apple fruit tones followed by a slightly chemical toned and raw finish. 82pts

A little vegetal on the nose, which adds a nice detail to the wood toast, cocoa and plum notes on the nose. This is touch sweet, blocky and clumsy in the mouth with a rich, feel but not much middle to the cocoa, plum and wood spice fruit though that light vegetal element does appear aromatically. Not much finish here except for a bit of tannin and more cocoa notes. Plush and boring. 82pts

A lightly smoky, caramel and vanilla tinged oak note on the nose with hints of banana and very ripe pineapple. This is soft in the mouth with a round feel and no rough edges. It’s moderately fruity with very typical sweet apple, banana cream, and pineapple flavors that fade out on the moderate finish that ends on a slightly bitter note. You’d be hard pressed to find a better Chardonnay at this price point. 84pts

The nose is fairly simple and direct with earthy, oaky tones framing leafy, tobacco tinged black fruits with hints of licorice and cocoa. Round and soft with a suggestion of orange peel on entry which is followed by a round mid-palate with a sweet, dried cherry and coca dusted quality that leads to a gently tannic, bright red cherry toned finish. 85pts.

Light aromas, a little creamy with a bit of banana. Flavors have a bit of sweetness, some citrus fruit especially on the finish.

Very minerally and a bit sweet, this is a fun and decent wine for catering, picnics, camping, and 5 second shots of laughing with old friends. Oh black box, you melodious monolith of mirth.

Sweet tropical fruits of kiwi, pineapple and vanilla on the nose. Very buttery with flavors of red apple, cinnamon. Medium acidity keeps the wine from feeling flabby and the finish has a nice sharpness to it. Very creamy mouth feel throughout.

Somewhat woody chardonnay nose, with some spice and pineapple/melon. Nicely balanced bright fruits. - Schreiner's Winers: Thinking in the Box tasting

Strongly recommended by WYPR's Cellar Notes (as a picnic wine).

Plum and blackberry nose. Flavors are tart, with good acidity, light tannin and a hint of black olive on the finish.

Fruity hot nose. Medium bodied and chalky in the mouth with a bright acidic finish.

Tasting Notes - The Chardonnay opens with tropical aromas of pineapple, apricot, lemon zest and vanilla. On the palate, the Chardonnay is light and clean with hints of pineapple, green apple, tart lemon and lemon blossoms with a touch of sweetness on the finish. The wine is great paired with fresh fish and most pasta dishes.

With it's elegant Black Box and gold script, Black Box Wines are a terrific value, equaling four full bottles of wine. Quality and affordability all in one.

Black Box Merlot is a decent enough Merlot, though we fail to see why many people seem to hold up Black Box as the pinnacle of bag-in-box wines. The aroma is nice, with pepper, clove, and berry notes. The flavor offers some cherry and blackberry notes, with quite a bit of oak and a medium spicy finish. There’s not a lot of complexity, and the feel is a bit generic, but it’s an adequate red wine.

The best things about this boxed Merlot are its dryness and balance. Shows a real understanding of the way acids, tannins, fruit and oak should interplay. The blackberry and currant flavors are not enormously concentrated, but this is quite an attractive wine, and a great value at this price.

At about $6 per bottle equivalent, this Merlot-in-a-box is a terrific buy. It's a dry, stylish red wine, whose cherry, herb and subtle oak flavors are polished. If you've shied away from boxed wines, try this one. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
