Black Box Chardonnay 2011

Member Review by Hypoprisy:

Earthy with sweet tones of cherry and blackberry on the nose. Explodes on the tongue right away and then halts to a dry finish of cedar, currant, and cocoa. This is an interesting wine that doesn't beg to be taken quickly or in excess due to the heavier tannin finish. Its balanced acidity and short sweet moment with a sudden dry finish surprised me and piqued my interest and enjoyment. It's very rare for us to have a boxed wine in our home; The last time we did must have been over 12 years ago. This box is welcome to come back again, anytime.

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Black Box Merlot is a decent enough Merlot, though we fail to see why many people seem to hold up Black Box as the pinnacle of bag-in-box wines. The aroma is nice, with pepper, clove, and berry notes. The flavor offers some cherry and blackberry notes, with quite a bit of oak and a medium spicy finish. There’s not a lot of complexity, and the feel is a bit generic, but it’s an adequate red wine.
