Today’s offer comes from the architect of Stagecoach himself, Dr. Jan Krupp with his Black Bart's Bounty Syrah. Widely acclaimed for the stunning richness and depth that Syrah from Stagecoach and Krupp Brothers Vineyards achieve, the Black Bart’s Bounty Syrah promises greatness. Only the best blocks of Syrah from the steep volcanic vineyard peaks make this ultra-low production gem. The 2006 Black Bart’s Bounty is vibrant new world Syrah;deep garnet in color with a slight tint of black running through its core. Pure aromas of dusty blackberry, blueberry compote, roasted fennel, toasted baking spices and white pepper dominate the aroma. Concentrated finishing notes of smoked bacon and a core of rich mineralityadd complexity to the wild dark berry and violet flavors on the palate. Enjoy this amazing effort with a wide variety of grilled meats and wild game such as blackberry-glazed seared Venison loin. Stagecoach Vineyard: History The hunt to find unrivaled vineyard land led Dr. Jan Krupp, a physician with a green thumb and a passion for great wine, high into Napa Valley’s eastern hills in 1991 to a harsh mountain site strewn with rocks and choked with chaparral. Straddling the Pritchard Hilland the Atlas Peak appellation and stretching over 1,100 contiguous, undulating acres: Jan was positive that the varied terrain of rocky, volcanic soils would be ideal for growing world-class wine grapes. A half-million tons of rock and debris later, the Krupp Brothers (Jan’s brother Bart joined the team shortly after the original purchase of the property) had carved three of Napa Valley’s most esteemed vineyards out of what had once been considered virtual wilderness: the original Krupp Vineyard, Krupp Brothers Vineyard, and the legendary Stagecoach Vineyard. Surrounded by established neighbors Bryant Family, Dalla Valle, and Chappellet, the Krupps’ low-yielding vines today produce fruit sought after by some of the valley’s most iconic wineries such as Paul Hobbs, Cain, Caymus and Realm to name just a few. Sweet aromas of blueberries, black raspberries, and lavender as well as bacon fat and graphite. The palate is big and unctuous with mouth-filling flavors of raspberries, black raspberries, blueberries, vanilla, and smoky oak. The tannins transition seamlessly across teh palate of this full-bodied wine, with a strong and persistent finish. Great with green peppercorn duck terrine or roasted venison. Enjoy now through 2015.
