What to Expect

Aglianico is capable of producing on the great red wines of Italy. Rich in color and tannin, these wines are capable of retaining high acidity even when very ripe. They can range from fairly fruity styles to majestic, ageworthy examples and while the deep plummy and wild cherry fruit is always evident it is usually complemented by nuanced earthy and cocoa tones and often reveals a strikingly deep mineral note.

Rating: 94/100 - As reviewed by Wine & Spirits Magazine on 06/09 At first this feels hidden behind both its oak and the strong mineral tannins pulled from the calcareous-clay soils of Monte Vulture. It fills out with air, balancing violet and ripe cherry flavors with a dried mushroom earthiness and piercing acidity. Impressively structured and built to age, this could be cellared for up to a decade or decanted for roast leg of lamb.
