Birichino Vin Gris California 2011
This vin gris allies the suggestion of citrus, rosehip, orchard fruits and violet pastilles with the enigmatic imprint of garrigues--the wild herbs which aromatize the Provençal countryside. Graced with a lightness of body, this rosé is composed of the classical varieties Grenache, Rolle, Mourvèdre and Cinsault, sourced in part from 100+ year-old vineyards in California, and enlivens many a savory dish including grilled fish, roast pork loin and salade niçoise.
Based in Santa Cruz, and drawing on a combined 35 years making and selling wine at Bonny Doon, co-founders Alex Krause and John Locke are focused on attaining the perfect balance of perfume, poise and puckishness with a particular fondness for varieties that provide enormous pleasure and reestablish a direct connection to the sensual world.
