Billecart-Salmon Champagne Blend Champagne Brut Réserve 2000
93 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): ...a big, exuberant wine that explodes from the glass with layers of fruit. French oak has given the wine an additional measure of volume and richness, but without dominating the wine's overall balance. Pretty notes of spiciness and minerality add finesse on the close... 60% Pinot Noir (Mareuil-sur-Ay, Ay, Ambonnay, Verzenay, Mailly) and 40% Chardonnay (Cote des Blancs). In 2000 the wine was aged in barrel (20%) and saw batonnage, although it did not undergo malolactic fermentation. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022. (Dec 2009)
The Billecart-Salmon House is the embodiment of these rare family businesses who have constantly strived to build the legend of Champagne. The family's independence has helped them to maintain a sense of continuity in the concoction of their champagnes with as their watchwords: finesse, balance and elegance. Each generation has endeavoured to propel the art of wine-growing into modern world, while remaining firmly rooted in almost two centuries experience.
Drink very cold and it feels like frozen pricks scratching your throat. Very cool, lemony, and refresing. My favorite "everyday" Champagne.

Pale orange-pink. Fresh, mineral-accented aromas of redcurrant, strawberry and raspberry, with hints of dried rose and white pepper. Zesty, palate-staining red berry and blood orange flavors gain flesh and weight in the mid-palate, picking up a note of candied flowers. Dry and taut but packs a punch, finishing with outstanding clarity and stony persistence. This is still a baby.
