What to Expect

Champagne is specifically a sparkling wine made in the Champagne region of France; every other sparkling is simply that, sparkling wine. Made to be aged for a few to many years, in many languages "Champagne" is synonymous with "party". When young, Champagne exhibits the fresh fruit tones of its "cepage", or blend. Usually based on a blend the features either Chardonnay or Pinot Noir as its main ingredient, Champagne's fruit can range from citrusy to orchard fruits and even red berries. The wine gains distinct yeasty notes from its secondary fermentation, the one that adds the fizz, which is typically described as recalling brioche or bread. As it ages Champagne tends to lose its obvious fruit, which is replaced by subtle nutty tones and subdued elements of dried fruits.

Winemakers Notes

Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier: The blend for the NV Reserve has remained unchanged since 1945: grapes from three different years - Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier from the best sites of the Marne.

Reviews

A pale yellow Champagne with an elegant, persistent bead that glides down easily. A blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Dry, floral with aromas of ripe pears.

Appearance: Fine bubbles which rise slowly, persistent mousse. Straw-colored. Aroma: A nose of ripe pear with some touches of cut hay. Taste: Full fruit, but clean in the mouth. Composition: This cuvee contains 40% Pinot Meunier, 30% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay. All wines from the best sites in the department of the Marne, from more than twenty top vineyards in Champagne. The overall composition of this cuvee has not changed much for almost fifty years. Fresh and long tasting, the Brut Reserve may be drunk on all occasions.

Crystal clear lemon and ripe apple aromas are repeated on the crisp- almost crunchy- palate through to a long- translucent finish. The new packaging emanates from a Paris designer- and has been adopted across the Billecart range. It is a classic example of label change which gives brand managers a read more...
