Bigi Orviéto Classico Amabile 2008
Orvieto is Umbria’s most famous wine. Because of its popularity with the Vatican elite, Orvieto has always been called the “Wine of Popes”. Legend holds that Bernardino di Betto, the Italian painter nicknamed Il Pinturicchio, had an unlimited supply of the wine while he created the Frescoes of the Cathedral of Orvieto. In 1931, the Italian Government established a Classico zone for the central and best areas of Orvieto. Those areas are the source of the grapes for Bigi’s Orvieto Classico. Vinification is very careful and modern. State of the art equipment is used for soft pressing, followed by cold fermentation of the free run juice. Unlike the Secco, or Dry style, a small amount of residual sugar is left unfermented, giving Orvieto Classico Amabile a pleasing hint of sweetness.
Food Pairings for Bigi Orviéto Classico Amabile
Bright, golden-yellow color with a pronounced aroma of wild flowers, honey, and almonds. The taste is pleasantly sweet balanced by soft acidity and a lingering finish of ripe fruit.
