Editorial Reviews for Beychevelle 6xmags
This is subtle yet nuanced with layers on the nose revealing notes of creosote, scorched earth, bitter cocoa, cassi, herb, and vanilla. In the mouth medium full yet with excellent balance and a real sense of elegance. The structure is very well integrated leaving a seamless mouthfeel to the core of cassis/boysenberry fruit that is wrapped around the very refined tannins. The finish is long and features a gentle balance of fruit, spice, and mineral notes that end on a note of pencil lead. More Margaux than St. Julien this is refined and appealing and will be ready sooner than many 2005’s
A perfect blend of the Sauvignon and Merlot grape giving a beautiful silky taste.

...exhibits an opaque purple color as well as a sweet nose of plums, black currants, flowers, and minerals. Medium to full body, refreshing acidity, good definition, and strong flavors characterize this top-flight effort.
Wine Advocate ReviewRated 90While this is a strong effort from a property that too often does not live up to its pedigree, I had hoped the 2005 Beychevelle would merit an even higher score. A deep ruby/purple hue is accompanied by a sweet perfume of roasted herbs, black cherries, and even blacker fruits. The wine is medium to full-bodied with sweet tannin, good acidity, and a fruitcake-like spiciness and earthiness. Pure and long with a tannic clout that is neither intrusive nor excessive, this elegant, powerful effort should be at its finest between 2017-2030.
Dense in color, Beychevelle has a closed nose with a closed,"sweet", ripe taste. Very well balanced in terms of fruit concentration and structure, the wine is very stylish, with a note of acidity at the end that provides freshness. This vintage is a real success for Beychevelle.
The quintessentially elegant yet powerful 2005 may be the finest Beychevelle made since 1982. Its opaque ruby/purple color and sweet nose of camphor, blueberries, black currants, flowers, and crushed ... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Château Beychevelle is a prestigious great growth steeped in three centuries of history. Beychevelle was the fiefdom of the Ducs d'Epernon. The first duke, Jean Louis Nogaret de la Valette, French Grand Admiral, wielded enormous power. According to legend, all ships had to lower theirs sails as they sailed past the Château in hommage to its powerful owner. This accounted for the name Baisse-Voile, which changed to Beychevelle over the years. Built in the 17th century and reconstructed by the Marquis de Brassier in 1757, Château Beychevelle is one of the jewels of the entire Bordeaux region. Maintaining a wonderful balance between power and finesse, Beychevelle's wine reflects its elegant architecture. The château places great emphasis on environmental protection and health, and earned both Agriculture Raisonnée ("Sustainable Agriculture") and "Terra Vitis" certification in 2005.
