What to Expect

Arguably the most renowned wines on earth, the classed growths of Bordeaux continue to epitomize the power and complexity Bordeaux blends are capable of. While most wines here are based on Cabernet Sauvignon, both Merlot and Cabernet Franc play important roles in adding layered complexity to the finished wines, and allow winemakers in each commune within the region to use the blend that is best suited to their unique combination of soil and meso-climate. The most famous communes each have their own classic traits with St. Estephe giving full, if rustic wines, from the heavy clay soils, to Paulliac's elegant balance of ripe fruits, minerality and structure to St. Julien's rich blackberry core and supple feel. Moving to the South of the region brings one to Margaux, with its notes of flowers and berries draped over a feminine frame, and then to the Graves region with wines redolent of tobacco, gravel and smoke. To the East lies the famous appellations of St. Emillion, with its wonderfully ripe Cabernet Franc, and Pomerol where Merlot rules the roost and produces deep, plush wines of uncommon refinement.

Reviews

Disappointing.
Smoke and black currant nose
Spicy wine with a touch of tobacco, but not much fruit (YET?) and a bit sour. A so-so finish.

I am so far from other notes about this wine that I wonder if I had a bad bottle.

he color is dense dark mulberry purple and the aroma is fresh, clean and reserved with an overlay of new oak. The wine is somewhat severe now with tannins and acidity that wrap it up tightly, yet there is real substance hidden within. Another excellent Beychevelle following the superb 2005. Tasted from barrel April '07. By early '09, Beychevelle has been "tamed" by barrel maturation, showing a fine restrained aroma with delicate fruit qualites. The palate is medium weight but highly expressive for a you ng wine, offering high toned aromatics in a very long finish. A model read more...

Beychevelle has been a hit-or-miss estate for nearly three decades, but it appears to be achieving more consistency and quality over recent vintages. The deep plum/ruby-tinged 2006 possesses charcoal, black cherry, cedar, and spice characteristics, sweet fruit, medium body, an elegant, but substantial style, and impressive concentration, texture, and length. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2028. 90-92" WA5/07
