Betz Family Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley Père de Famille 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Pere de Famille is made up of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, and 8% Merlot aged for 16 months in 65% new French oak. Doing a fine impersonation of a classified growth Pauillac, it offers up a nose of sandalwood, Asian spices, incense, herbal notes, violets, black currants, and blackberry...96" WA 8/11 "The 2009 Betz Family Cabernet Sauvignon Père de Famille is a brilliant, structured wine that has an almost Bordeaux like quality to its aromas, firm tannin, and focused texture . Showing classy and beautifully pure aromas of blackberry liqueur, wild herbs, violets, lead pencil, and cutting mineral and crushed stone nuances on the nose, it is full-bodied and powerful on the palate, with a concentrated, rich mid-palate, fantastic verve to the texture, and substantial, building tannin through the finish. The overall balance and texture keeps this enjoyable now (barely), but it really needs 5-7 years of bottle age, and should have 15 to 20 years of total longevity...96" Rhone Report 06/12

We've had one way of making wine since that first vintage, 1997: keep it small, keep it simple and keep it focused. In our first vintage we produced about 150 cases total; and we leveled out at 3500 cases a few years ago. We've limited ourselves to a quantity we can watch over, in the vineyard and the cellar. By working with selected, dedicated grape growers and employing methods that we believe craft superior wine, we hope to create wines of individual character, a blend of richness, balance and pleasure. Our winemaking focuses on the purity of the individual varieties and the vineyards they come from. We do those things that a small winery has the luxury of doing: we know every barrel. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
