Bet the Farm 2009

Member Review by ChambourcinNY:

Bet the Farm, owned and operated by wine maker Nancy Tisch is a fairly young winery nestled in picturesque Aurora, NY. From their website: "Bet the Farm is many things: a New York farm winery, a regional wine shop and a gourmet market. The winery is housed at Damiani Wine Cellars (Seneca Lake) in Hector. Our hand-crafted wines are sold alongside a premier selection of other Finger Lakes wines at our shop in the Village of Aurora. In addition to wine, we offer a selection of gourmet foods produced throughout our state. Visiting the shop is an adventure for the senses!" www.betthefarmny.com

Bet the Farm started as an idea for a shop to fill a vacant storefront in the Village of Aurora. It needed to be a good fit for the locals and the college, and have some appeal for the many tourists that visit the area. We set our sites on a shop that would feature regional foods and wines. We started in September of 2006 and by mid-May of 2007 we finally had all of the licenses and certificates required to operate our store in its entirety. During our short history, my staff and I have learned a great deal about Finger Lakes wines and the fine culinary products that are being produced throughout the state of New York. It is indeed an honor to represent each of the wineries and businesses that are making such amazing products. In addition to great products, our shop also has its own unique style. For the most part, you get to try it before you buy it. All of us that work here are passionate about food and wine. We not only offer our products but our ideas about how to pair certain wines with foods or cheeses. We also pass along recipe ideas from the producers or the ones we've come up with ourselves or the ones we've heard back from our customers. We also ask that you keep us in mind while shopping for gifts – whether for the holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, or hostess gifts, or thank you gifts , or just because…– we can surely find something that will fit the occasion. We have worked hard (well, if you consider shopping hard work) to bring together a quality selection of products – something for everyone's palate and everyone's purse. I want to thank our customers that have already discovered us and I encourage others to take the opportunity to visit our store in Aurora. It's a shopping experience that we are sure you will enjoy! And if you can't get to Aurora anytime soon, just give us a call or send us an e-mail! Nancy Tisch, Owner and Winemaker Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
