This shows wonderful development in contrast to the younger Amarone. Full of funghi with leafy, compsty nuances that build on the agelica root spiciness. Hints of cigarette tobacco and powdered sugar add depth. This is still big and rich in the mouth with excellent balance, full of red fruits and a hint of apply sweetness across the midpalate and leading to a clean, long finish. Drink 2008-2016

"Color: Deep garnet red. Bouquet: Generous aroma of freshly picked cherries mingled with notes of sour cherry, vanilla and an agreeable trace of spiciness. Taste: Dry, full bodied and amply structured. Cherries, red berries and a hint of vanilla lead into a dazzling finish that recalls walnuts and hazelnuts."

Don't read magazine reviews of this. They are a waste. Who cares what percentage of what grape? Pickled cherries with sour cherries? Fuck off!!! This may be the best amarone I've ever tasted. Just fantastic. It is proof that geniuses make great wine... and assholes write about it.

The 2003 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a big, enveloping wine loaded with wild cherries, licorice, new leather and dried flowers, not to mention considerable personality. The tannins are just a touch rough around the edges, and I am not sure they will ever soften given the heat of the vintage, but the 2003 should continue to drink well for at least a handful of years. Ideally the wine is best paired with hearty dishes. Anticipated maturity: 2012–2021.

This traditional style delivers base notes of smoke and sweet earth, joined by focused flavors of dried cherry, walnut, date, star anise and a hint of rich treacle. Displays lovely balance, supple tannins and a fresh, herb- and mineral-tinged finish. Drink now through 2023.

92 Points - -- Wine Advocate"The 2001 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a joyous wine to taste. This is a fairly restrained style for Amarone. Although the wine reveals limited complexity, it offers superb overall balance and an irresistible, caressing texture on the palate. The perfumed red cherry fruit is remarkably fresh for a wine of this age and the plumpness balances the wine's tannins with notable elegance. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2018."

The wine has a deep, dark garnet colour. The classical cherry flavours of Amarone are immediately perceptible to the nose, with the preponderant notes of Marasca and sour cherry. The wine presents a great variety of characters, from fresh fruit to jamlike tones, which offer a very harmonious aftertaste, alternating with spicy elements. The ample nose has a sweet impact and spreads in a continuous chain of sensations. The wine opens up in the mouth with aftertastes of all the red-berry fruits, besides vanilla on soft, heavy-duty cloth.

Wine Advocate ReviewRated 90The 2000 Amarone (70% Corvina, 25% Rondinella, 5% Molinara) is big, rich and sexy in the way it combines fresh, vibrant rose petals, red cherries and spices with a firm, structured personality. Although it is not especially generous in its fruit, it does offer notable poise in a powerful, muscular style. Anticipated maturity: 2007 - 2012.Wine Tasting NotesDry, full bodied and amply structured. Cherries, red berries and a hint of vanilla lead into a dazzling finish that recalls walnuts and hazelnuts.

Unlike many other local producers in the Valpolicella region, Bertani owns its own vineyards and Bertani's harvest originates entirely in the firm's own vineyards. Made from Corvina Veronese 70%, Rondinella 25%, Molinara 5% grapes, this full-bodied, dense garnet colored wine tastes of all the red-berry fruits plus a touch of vanilla.
