- Ultra ripe and borderline roasted black fruit aromas mix with very plumy, almost port-like flavors that despite the richness retain a real sense of freshness plus a seductive velvety finish. This is big yet refined, delicious yet classy and altogether impressive. It's certainly not typical but it's a knockout anyway with a faint note of bitter chocolate on the finish.

- ($168) Bright red-ruby. Jammy currant on the nose, currently showing little sign of the normal perfumed character of this grand cru. Then concentrated, large-scaled and rich, with chewy currant and chocolate flavors. A bit fresher and less extreme than the Corton but still too roasted to show much terroir character. Finishes with substantial, slightly drying tannins. I find it very difficult to predict whether this style will reward aging or become more exaggerated.
