In contrast to a typical young Clos de Vougeot, this is opulent, expressive and exuberant followed by black fruit, mocha and earth nuanced flavors of striking size, weight, intensity and power. The finish however is reserved, slightly austere and brooding. This too has enormous potential and truly exceptional depth crafted in a very ripe style.

($138) Medium red-ruby. Medicinal cherry and chocolate aromas. Suave and lush but youthfully unforthcoming, with sweet but reticent flavors of redcurrant, mocha, minerals and menthol. Finishes rather tight, even austere, with building but ripe tannins. This needs seven or eight years.
