Berryessa Gap Tempranillo Yolo County 2008
Shows a touch of VA on the nose but there's a nice background note of dried grasses and roast beef that help to set of the raspberry fruit. In the mouth this is just a little chunky but offers up some nice, slightly rustic dark berry fruit that has a touch of a peppery, syrah like edge. Nicely done. 87ptsAdd winemaker's notes

Berries with a bit of an herb edge and clumps of dirt. Flavors are quite dank, like a cavern, with a bit of black fruit showing underneath.
Spicy and dry. Initially very sweet but the sugar and fruit fades away in the mouth and on the finish. A little too bland for my tastes.
Black cherry and kirsch on the nose, but some dry dustiness as well. Solid tannins, but the fruit comes over muted. The finish has a nice mineral, stony edge.
Vegetal nose. Pow in your mouth with acid. A little overwhelming at first. Not terrible in my opinion.
Not your usual red wine drinker here, so a little too harsh on my noob wine taste buds.
Metals, notably copper, earthy, mildly tannic and more citric, the attack is elegant and bold, followed by a buttery herbal gaminess, and a long, sumptuous release.
