Although the history of the city of Borja takes us back to the beginnings of the Paleolithic period, it wasn’t until the 4th century before Christ, in the heart of the Celtiberian period, when thanks to classical and numismatic written sources the name of this village came to light: Bursao. With the passing through Bursao of different civilizations like the Romans, Visigothic Hispania and the Muslims we have inherited architectural remains and above all, the natural inclination of its people towards agriculture and more particularly viniculture. Of equal importance was the implementation of artisanal techniques that today endure as living proof of the cultural richness of the former Bursao today known as Borja. Bright purple. Ripe cassis and blackberry aromas, with complicating notes of tobacco, fresh herbs and tobacco. Lush and supple on the palate, with sweet black and blue flavors given spine by juicy acidity. Finishes vibrant and focused, with supple tannins and a lingering note of bitter chocolate.

The 2011 Berola is a 1,400-case blend of 70% Garnacha, 20% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon that was aged in both French and American oak for 10 months, then given 14 additional months of bottle age. It boasts a deep ruby/plum/purple color, notes of blackcurrants, tobacco leaf, licorice and pepper, a velvety texture, and an elegant yet substantial, medium-bodied personality displaying loads of fruit and glycerin as well as a heady finish. It, too, is an unreal value. Drink now–2017.

This rich red delivers plum, blackberry and licorice flavors, with loamy, gamy and herbal notes that give it a slightly rustic character. It has modest tannins and gentle acidity. Garnacha, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now.
