Bernardus Winery Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend Monterey County 2005
2005 Rosella's Chardonnay This gently sloping vineyard in the heart of the Santa Lucia Highlands has been planted by Gary Franscioni, a fourth generation grower, with two Chardonnay clones selected at the Dijon research station in France. Rosella's has become known as one of California's premier Pinot Noir vineyards, but Gary has preserved this block for his Chardonnay, which is also producing excellent results. The 2005 vintage was quite cool with dry weather throughout the critical ripening month of October. This allowed for extended hang-time, producing a wine of intense fruitiness, pronounced minerality and crisp acidity. Appellation: Santa Lucia Highlands Cooperage : All French oak from a variety of coopers, 1/3 of which were new. Fermentation: We use a variety of selected and native yeasts. About 80% of the 2005 has undergone a malo-lactic fermentation. We stir the lees (battonage) every 2 to 4 weeks during the 9 months in barrel. Varietal: 100% Chardonnay Production: 550 cases Harvest Date: October 2005 Retail Price: $40.00 Release Date: June 1, 2007
