Bernardus Winery Red Bordeaux Blend Carmel Valley Marinus Estate Reserve 2002

Winemaker's Notes:

The Marinus Vineyard in upper Carmel Valley is planted with a blend of traditional Bordeaux varieties in separate blocks. These areas were identified as having distinct terroirs. Different planting and growing strategies are used with each block to develop components for blending in the final wine. The Estate Reserve is a blend of the very best lots from that particular year. This is decided by tasting during the barrel aging process, typically around 6 to 7 months after harvest. The 2002 vintage was exceptional on the Central Coast. Warm, sunny, and dry weather prevailed right through October. This permitted us the luxury of extending hang-time, producing fully ripe and well balanced grapes. As always, we hand pick our Marinus vineyard block by block, varietal by varietal, guided by ripeness and flavor development. The deep crimson color is nearly opaque and promises a wine of depth and intensity. Aromas are typical of classic Bordeaux: ripe, red fruits, and cedar with notes of earth and tobacco. The vibrant flavors reprise the aromas of black cherry and cassis, accented by cigar box notes. Lush, and well structured, the full, rich tannins fill the mouth and extend through the endless finish. This is a wine exhibiting great beauty now, but will reward proper aging for many years to come. The final blend is: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon 25% Merlot 4% Cabernet Franc 3% Petit Verdot 3% Malbec Harvest Dates: October 23rd through November 14th Cooperage: 100% French oak, 50% of which is new Case Production: 710 -- (6 packs)

When Bernardus says "Taste a Dream" they mean it. One of the most velvety delicious cab blends I've tasted. My current fav. And YUMMY!
