Bernardus Winery Chardonnay Monterey County 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

Typical of this warm vintage, our 2004 Monterey Chardonnay exhibits aromas of ripe pear and apple with nuances of citrus, honey and vanilla. The palate exudes juicy, ripe, tropical fruit flavors accented by notes of fresh butter. It is impeccably balanced by a pleasing beam of acidity extending through the long and creamy finish. The wine as fermented with several different yeast strains, including a significant preparation of naturally occurring yeasts, to provide a palette of different and complex flavors. After primary fermentation, the barrels were stirred every other week throughout the ten-month ageing process. This stirring of the ¡§lees¡¨ the naturally occurring sediment in the barrels, enhances the creamy buttery texture- the mouth feel- which is the most important expression of Bernardus wines. Appellations: Santa Lucia Highlands Vineyards-Rosella's, Sarmiento and La Reina Arroyo Seco Vineyards-Griva, Ventana, Cedar Lane, Zabala and Zannetta. Monterey Vineyards-Cypress Carneros Vineyards-Sangiacomo Harvest Dates: 9/22/03 to 10/24/03 Cooperage: 100% French Oak Dargaud & Jaegle, Francois Freres, Sirugue, Cadus and Remond. Varietal: 100% Chardonnay Case Production: 196 cases (6 bottles per case) Release Date: May 1, 2005

I usually love Bernardus Chard - my house wine since '97 vintage. But this wine was more bitterness than I ever experienced
