Bernard Burgaud Côte-Rôtie 1999

Member Review by duncan 906:

This bottle of wine was part of a lot I bought from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/44411.Cote Rotie is an AOC for red wines located on the west bank of the Rhone river about 20 miles south of Lyon. The name roughly translates as 'roasted slope because the vines are grown on sunny south facing slopes overlooking the river. The wines are mainly made from the syrah grape although up to 10% of the white grape viognier may be added to a blend.Cote Rotie is subdivided into the Cote Blonde and the Cote Brune on the basis of soil types.Domaine Burgaud is an old established family business with several holdings scattered around the appellation. The wine is 100% syrah the vines average 30 years of age and the wine spends 15 months in oak barrels.l started my bottle last night with my supper of beef stew and I enjoyed it.There is plenty of blackberry, cherry, blackcurrant and plum style fruit there and there is also a slight spicy or peppery aftertaste.I am not the only one to like this wine because the wine critic,Robert Parker gave it 91 of his points.
