Beringer Vineyards Steinhauer Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 2011
When all of these cuvees are blended together, the result is the finest Cabernet Sauvignon yet made by Ed Sbragia, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve (11,000 cases of truly divine Cabernet nectar). For statisticians, 44% came from the Steinhauer Vineyard, 1% from Bancroft Ranch, 17% from Rancho del Oso, 3% from Chabot, 13% from St. Helena Home Ranch, 0% from Quarry Vineyard, and the balance from Marston Vineyard. As I reported last year, the 2001 is an extraordinary effort. Large-scaled yet elegant, it boasts classic notes of creme de cassis, chocolate, and smoky oak. With extraordinary voluptuousness, great concentration, tremendous intensity, and a finish that lasts nearly 60 seconds, this saturated purple-colored, full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the greatest wines ever made at Beringer. It is a tribute to the brilliant Ed Sbragia. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2023.
clear pale lemon color, sweet and fruity on the palate
Two and a half glasses
Hey, pretty decent for the price. Served in a hotel lobby to passers by, i wasnt expecting much. Having said that it was a solid california chardonnay: super oaky, spicy, with some spice (from the oak). Not a lot of fruit, but what do you expect for the price?
From the highest vineyard in Napa. Big tannin on this wine. Feels warm on the palate, highly concentrated alcohol. Stewed fruit and cassis. Nice spice and cedar notes. The finish is dark berry tart. Bold tannin remains through finish. - Tasted at Beringer Private Reserve Tasting at the Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas 4/5/10
At first I felt this chardonnay was over oaked. After some time to breathe in the glass and once the bottle was open a bit, it relaxed a bit. All in all, a very woody, vanilla nose. Nice bright tropical fruit like pineapple on the palate where the oak accents. 14.8%, so it's a nice dry chardonnay without being flabby in any one area.
Past it's time unless cellared all along. Gold leaning to toffee in the glass. Roasted caramel flavors are all that remains. Drink now or make salad dressing.

Enormously tannic and effectively shut down now, this nonetheless is a big, potent, dry wine that's explosive in ripe, plush Cabernet fruit flavor, and generously oaked. The finish is so sweet, so delicious. The idea clearly is an ageable mountain Ca... Wine Enthusiast. Good full medium ruby. Subdued but complex aromas of currant, plum and smoked meat. Round and ripe, with plum and mineral flavors complicated by an exotic floral note. Fat and sweet but not at all over the top. Finishes with substantial broad tannins... Stephen Tanzer's IWC. Even with 8+ years of age, the wine is very dark at the core and just the faintest pink at the rim. The nose is showing some bright, floral and cherry notes, along with earthy secondary notes of forest floor and soy marinade. The palate too shows ... Chuck Hayward. ($85) Good bright ruby-red. Cassis, plum, cedar and tobacco on the nose, lifted by a piney note. Dense and sweet but also juicy and sharply delineated, with flavors of mountain berries and tobacco.
