Beringer Vineyards Pinot Noir California Founders' Estate 2004
I copied this from a review of a Benton Lane Pinot, but the same comments apply: A pretty nose of bright black cherry and hints of black pepper lead to a light-to-medium-bodied palate that's heavier than it looks. It's loaded with spicy black cherry fruit, light tannins and enough acid to make it pair well with food. The food in this case was a moroccan-style roast duck with orange sauce. The duck was seasoned with cinnamon and clove, and the spicy cherry pinot was a great complement to the dish. So, while not a great wine on its own, it was a great match to this dish.
