Fine tobacco, nut, tomato leaf and sweet slightly jammy red fruits offer lovely complexity on the nose, with really fine grape spice and integrated wood spice aromas. This is big and broad in the mouth, with soft slightly chewy tannins early followed by late-arriving tannins that are a bit harder. A touch inky on the front, broad and slightly matte on the mid-palate, this picks up steam on the back end with rich blackcurrant and candied blackberry fruit flecked with bright black spice and soft herb-inflected flavors that drop off onto a slightly wood-sweetened finish with plenty of coffee and mocha tones. Powerful but relatively well balanced, this is a rather muscular and spicy wine for Beringer which today, while the quality is evident, comes off a bit clumsy. 89 points

The 2010 vintage of the Beringer Quantum is the first release of this blend. In understanding the definition of quantum, you could say the smallest amount of the varietals besides Cabernet were most discrete in units used.

Winemaker's Notes:

"The Cabernet Sauvignon-based 2010 Red Blend Quantum, here in its first vintage, flows across the palate with attractive layers of deep, resonant fruit. Dark raspberry jam, orange rind, cloves, violets and cinnamon are all woven together gracefully. This open, approachable Bordeaux-style blend should drink well pretty much right out of the gate. Quantum is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Petite Sirah. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. This lineup from Beringer is full of highlights. The top Cabernet Sauvignon bottlings are terrific, but I am just as drawn to the entry and mid-tier offerings for their superb value and wide availability in the market....92" WA 12/12
