Beringer Founders' Estate Pinot Noir California 2014

Member Review by vin0vin0:

Fairly light Pinot with red fruit, bing cherry, raspberry, light nose and a medium finish. Not bad for the price.

It is impossible to take Beringer’s long history lightly. With their 215 acre plot of land purchased in 1875 and the winery founded in 1876, Jacob and Frederick Beringer’s winery is the oldest continually operating winery in Napa Valley. In 2001, it was named a historic district in the National Register for Historic Places. Current winemaker Laurie Hook and winemaster Ed Sbragia continue to draw from over a dozen vineyards to create world-class wines from varying soil compositions and climates. The winery managed to survive, and even thrive, during Prohibition by selling sacramental wines with a federal license. Since the wine was being made for religious purposes, it was legal! A unique aspect of Beringer is the tunnel system that was carved into the side of Spring Mountain around 1880. Chinese immigrant workers, the same workers that helped build the Trans-Continental Railroad, spent years hand-chiseling the 1,200 feet of tunnels. To this day, the tunnels act as a natural insulator, keeping the temperature between 58 and 60 degrees year-round, ideal for storing wine. Read less

Beringer offers quite a bit to enjoy in their Founder's Estate Pinot. Black Cherry really does come through prominently, with some toasted notes in the background. Nice bargin.

This wine is not complex enough to excite ones imagination. It drinks smooth and will likely cause little problems if severed at a dinner party. That being said, if you enjoy A-1 sauce on you steak your in business with this wine. The price is right so dive in and get a case.

Starts at $8.95 for a bottle, yet I just paid $8 for a glass at the local Italian restaurant, Don Giovanni, who didn't even put it in a glass large enough of swirl. To add insult to injury, they had it on their list of wines by the glass under "Interesting Reds." It's so so. Very drinkable on it's own, but I don't find the best Pinots to be especially drinkable without a nice food pairing. It was light raspberry in color and had notes of bitter cherry and some spice. I'd put this in the category of a basic Red Table Wine.

CHECK THE ORIGIN WARNING!! The Vin de Pays D'Oc wine from Beringer Founders is NOT NOT NOT.... Not the same as the two OTHER Beringer Founders bottlings of Pinot Noir from 2007... confused? I was! Looks like Beringer Founders offers THREE different origin Pinot Noirs for 2007! California, Provincia de Pavia (Italy) and Vin de Pays d'Oc (Frogland) Having seen good ratings for Beringer Founders Pinot, I thought this would be the same. Bought a bottle. HATED it. Barely drinkable PLONK. READ THE LABEL CAREFULLY! If it is from Vin read more...de Pays D' Oc, STAY CLEAR!! or waste your money Check the label. It is written in LITTLE print at the bottom.... thanks Beringer!

You know how a Beaujolais Nouveau hits you with a blast of young acid and freshly picked fruit? Thatrsquo;s this Pinot Noir. Itrsquo;s a simple, savory, easy wine, with cherries, strawberries, pomegranates and rhubarbs that seem like they were picked five minutes ago.

Fresh and bright, with strawberry aromas, a zippy acidity and almost no oak; pour this refreshing pinot with your turkey sandwich with cranberry relish.

"Rich red and black cherry flavors of this Pinot Noir are layered with subtle undertones of black pepper

While itrsquo;s a light wine, this pretty Pinot has plenty of varietal appeal. Itrsquo;s silky and crisp, with pleasant cherry and raspberry flavors finished with vanilla and smoke. A good value in Pinot Noir.

Quite good for an inexpensive Pinot, especially one from a statewide appellation. Has pleasant berry-cherry, herb and tobacco flavors wrapped in soft, silky tannins, but enough acidity to cleanse the palate. Pinot 101.

Deep garnet color shows off the intense cherry fruit flavors, spicy highlights and moderate oak nuances of this lush and lovely wine.
