It is impossible to take Beringer’s long history lightly. With their 215 acre plot of land purchased in 1875 and the winery founded in 1876, Jacob and Frederick Beringer’s winery is the oldest continually operating winery in Napa Valley. In 2001, it was named a historic district in the National Register for Historic Places. Current winemaker Laurie Hook and winemaster Ed Sbragia continue to draw from over a dozen vineyards to create world-class wines from varying soil compositions and climates. The winery managed to survive, and even thrive, during Prohibition by selling sacramental wines with a federal license. Since the wine was being made for religious purposes, it was legal! A unique aspect of Beringer is the tunnel system that was carved into the side of Spring Mountain around 1880. Chinese immigrant workers, the same workers that helped build the Trans-Continental Railroad, spent years hand-chiseling the 1,200 feet of tunnels. To this day, the tunnels act as a natural insulator, keeping the temperature between 58 and 60 degrees year-round, ideal for storing wine. Read less

We are using a mix of barrel and steel fermentation (a longer, cooler fermentation) to highlight the different characteristics we get from our four Chardonnay vineyards, this is an exciting example of this exploration featuring almost half of the blend fermented in steel tanks. Lemon zest, apple, pear, vanilla and toasty spice aromas carry into the flavors with a refreshing tanginess and a bright fruit finish. Winery. Flowers and oak spices on the nose. Rounder than the Stanly Ranch bottling but less precise, with more wood influence showing. Finishes with modest persistence. Most of the barrel-fermented portion of this wine (53%) went through malolactic fermentation

With bright citrus aromas and ripe tropical fruit flavors in the mouth, all lead to a rich lingering finish. The wine has ripe pear, pineapple, and mango flavors highlighted by citrus, Granny Smith apple and hints of baking spices.

Bright, light yellow. Tropical fruits, ripe peach and lemon oil aromas are complicated by charred oak and notes of spices and vanilla. Pliant and fruity, with the spicy oak element giving the mid-palate a touch of sweetness, as well as a slightly phenolic character on the back end.

Starts out with a smoky oak note before folding in pear and apple flavors. This is pleasing throughout, but turns simpler on the finish. Drink now.

Flavors of ripe citrus and apple are accented by aromas of toffee, tangerines and orange blossom. The mouth-coating, round texture highlights the rich flavors, all balanced by bright, refreshing notes that linger into the finish.

There are between 50,000-60,000 cases of the 2012 Chardonnay, most of it from sources in Carneros and Oak Knoll. This 100% estate Chardonnay can probably be found discounted to around $15 a bottle. Aromas of lemon oil, white peach and a touch of honeyed orange skin are followed by a crisp, elegant, medium-bodied Chardonnay that has obviously seen a touch of oak. However, it is a fresh, steely, delicious Chardonnay that should drink well for another 2–3 years.
