Benziger Family Winery Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma Mountain Estate 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

VINTAGE 2007AWARDSBest In Show- 2008 Orange County Wine CompetitionBest of Class- 2008 Cal State FairRETAIL $13.00/ bottle OFFER PRICE:$107.88 per case ($8.99 per bottle) AVAILABILITY Winery and National Markets APPELLATION North Coast VINTAGE: A dry winter led to a fairly early bud break in 2007. Overall the growing season was evenly paced with a just a few heat spikes in the early summer. Warm August weather started harvest early, but then a cool September slowed things quite a bit and grapes hung on the vines another few weeks. This cool period helped to develop complexity in flavors while keeping sugars under control. 2007 was one of the longest harvests Sonoma County has seen in recent years, spanning almost three months from start to finish. This vintage was certainly smaller in quantity than 2006, but in many cases the lower yields meant more concentrated flavors. WINEMAKING: With this Sauvignon Blanc, we wanted to craft a true-to-varietal, crisp, fresh, bright and fruity wine with a subtle grassiness and clean finish. We blend grapes from 7 vineyards in both Lake and Sonoma Counties to create the best possible expression of the Sauvignon Blanc varietal. Fruit from Lake County is harvested earlier and helps to provide the acidic backbone of the wine. Grapes from Sonoma are more aromatic in character and enhance the fruit flavors in the wine. In the vineyard, canopy management and crop thinning are instrumental in achieving the perfect fruit-to-acid balance in each grape. Alcohol 13.5% | Total Acidity .64 | pH 3.21
