This wine is synonymous with seamless, complex and ultra smooth. Benton Lane is located in the tenderloin of the Williamette Valley, one of the world's leading Pinot Noir locations. This Pinot exhibits attractive aromas of Bing cherry and overripened plums with a trace of earthiness. However, the mouth elevates you to another level, presenting chocolate, cherries and truffles with a hint of white pepper. The ripe tannins and voluptuous mouthfeel almost invoke a religious experience. It pairs well with veal, lamb, salmon and ahi tuna.

Few Pinot Noir producers manage to put such good quality in the bottle at this volume. Cool, wet weather at flowering reduced the crop in 2004, giving this wine a bit more density than usual, but it hasn't lost its delicacy or suppleness. The grapes were sourced entirely from the Benton-Lane estate vineyard in the southern part of the Willamette Valley.

Definitely on the light side, this snappy young wine has a lot of appeal. It's racy and bright, mixing raspberry and cranberry fruit with an earthy base of clay and sod. Additional, unusual flavors of spiced meat come in towards the finish, which shows good persistence.

Benton-Lane makes a significant amount of this moderately priced Pinot, and in the right years it is one of the better Oregon values. The 2005 offers sweet, pleasing strawberry fruit and earthy streaks of wild herbs. The tannins, at least at the moment, are still rough and taste of green tea. Time may smooth it out so that the finish is less rugged.

Light and immensely appealing for its delicacy and suppleness, offering pretty raspberry and strawberry flavors that pick up hints of white pepper and fresh mushroom as the finish sails on. Drink now through 2009.

WA 90pts. - 2008 is shaping up to be a pretty fantastic vintage for the Willamette Valley, and Benton-Lane has produced this pitch perfect entry-level Pinot which really reflects the outstanding vintage. Tasting Notes - This brilliantly ruby tinted wine has classic aromas of cherries, red currants and raspberries with more subtle hints of baking spice and vanilla layered in. On the palate, it exhibits lithe fruitiness and lingering cherry and berry flavors. The wine shows extraordinary balance and finesse with fine grained tannis that provide a nice framework to the silky mid-palate.

Bright ruby-red. Black raspberry and cherry-cola on the nose, with complicating notes of juniper, tobacco and musky herbs. Plush red and dark berry compote flavors provide very good palate coverage. Gains sweetness with air and picks up hints of sassafras and licorice pastille, finishing with very good cling and fine-grained tannins. This is approachable now but has the depth and structure to suggest that it will reward some patience.
