Benedetto Chianti 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Derived from an area recognized as the spiritual and historical heart of the Chianti region — Classico Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantia* (DOCG) — our Benedetto Chianti will make you feel blessed to have familiarized yourself with the flavors distinctive to an opulent Tuscan wine. The DOCG zone is found at the epicenter of the Chianti region and unlike the rest of Chianti’s sub-zones the area was awarded with its own DOCG classification, which is the highest type of recognition for quality Italian wines. Our 2009 vintage is celebrated for its ripe plums, cherries and red fruit bouquet. It delights the palate with a harmoniously dry, lively taste. Its bright crimson color and round tannins linger in a long, peppery finish. Enjoy this well-balanced, full-bodied wine with starters, pasta and meat dishes. Vines:85% Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo Nero, and 5% other complementary red grapes.

This is earthy and dry on the nose with more than a whiff of oxidation. A very soil driven, earthy, leathery nose is nicely complex but decidedly old-school. In the mouth this is fine, still old school and not very complex though there are some nice mineral notes and a touch of blue fruit accenting the strawberry notes. Texturally this is actually quite appealing, very true to chianti with bristly little tannins and fine mouth washing acidity and while the fruit is a touch modest, this is a very typical mouthful of rustic Chianti finishing with good length and snap. 84pts

Some dirt on the nose with hints of smoked meat lead into a palate of soft cherries and raspberries. Fairly light in the mouth and on the finish- not complex by any means but a nice sipping wine!

Tasting Notes:

A world famous wine produced in a unique, unmistakable area, Italy’s largest D.O.C.G. zone. Our Benedetto D.O.C.G. Chianti is full bodied, bright ruby red, with a distinct bouquet and a harmonious dry, fresh lively taste.
