Grant Burge is a fifth-generation Barossa vigneron and winemaker. Throughout his career, Grant has been one of the most respected and innovative forces in the Australian wine industry. The history of the Burge family and their long association with winemaking in the region can be traced back to March 1855, when noted tailor John Burge immigrated to the Barossa from Hillcot, near Pewsey in Wiltshire, England with his wife Eliza and their two sons. Grant Burge Wines was formed in 1988 by Grant and his wife Helen, and is located in the heart of the Barossa Valley on the banks of Jacobs Creek and is still proudly family owned. Continuing the family tradition, Grant and Helen have now brought the sixth generation into the fold. The Grant Burge Wines offering is based around individual vineyard selections from the finest vineyards in the Barossa which also includes the cooler areas of the Adelaide Hills and Eden Valley. With each of his Barossa vineyards having different climates, soils and characteristics, Grant matches them with suitable grape varieties, ensuring harvests of the best quality fruit. Benchmark by Grant Burge, is the epitome of a great wine from South Australia. The name sets the high standard of quality, style and taste of the wine, which others strive to attain. Grant selects only the best parcels of grapes to make this premium, fruit-driven wine with excellent balance, which can be enjoyed without years of cellaring, and offers excellent value, quality and consistency. The Grant Burge Chardonnay is a medium straw colour with a youthful green hue. The wine has pleasing aromas of fresh melon and alluring stone fruits and subtle rose petal. It has a generous and round palate, assisted by the wines time on lees and partial malolactic fermentation. It is fresh, crisp and medium-bodied, showing delicious richness of fruit and good acid balance. It is a highly satisfying Chardonnay, which is an ideal accompaniment to roast chicken, spicy Thai green curries or baked fish dishes.
