Food Pairings for Belvedere Zanovello Marzemino
Red wine of 100% marzemino grapes, 2010 vintage. Clear but not transparent, purple-red with some ruby nuances, consistent. Intense and somewhat complex aromas (red fruits). Lot of tannins at taste, but also having a good acidity to keep it equilibrated and not to "warm", persistent.

smooth, nice fresh fishing to take on ice or in cocktails
relatively complex nose, cherry like taste and a burst of acidity. Well made but definetly needs food! Also some sediment so worth decanting.
Drank on 9/5/2009: At or past peak, but a fabulous surprise... chocolate, smoky coffee, roses and shoe polish on the nose. Big cherry burst, common to CA, followed by red raspberry, licorice and chocolate. Good tannins kept the ride going with berry, coffee and mint. Interestingly chewy mouth feel and citrus tang lasted much longer than I'd expect from a 7 yr old merlot.
[Osteria del Sole. Portobellos; lobster and pasta] Presented to me as 100% sagrantino. Did not have any of the zestiness that I expected. It turns out that this has no sagrantino, but only now realize it is predominantly sangiovese. The wine was DOA; I have not had a lot of Sangiovese from Umbria but this must have been corked; the server insisted that it wasn't. In fact he said that it tastes excalty like the 25th Anni; Ive had the 25th Anni this was not what it tasted like. He did offer to take it back; I wasnt in the mood to make a big deal about a $12 wine even with a 3x markup; I just didn't tip; and I wont be returing. In any case, overall a bad experience, but I still love Arnaldo-Caprai wines.
