Belle Pente Pinot Gris Willamette Valley 2006

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Wildly aromatic from the get go, this packs in rich honey comb, game, pear, mint, dried peach, spice, flint, and worn wood tones in a nose that shows some heat but gains lift for the high alcohol. On entry this is really powerful with notes of baking spices and mace up front followed by very ripe pear and peach fruit. The alcohol is obvious, if well integrated and gives this an impression of sweetness and help to power the earthy, honeycomb laced finish to a lingering, spicy polleny fiish. This is definitely not for everyone, it’s a big, gangly wine but the flavors are compelling and this would rock with a roast goose. 90pts

Belle Pente (bell-pont') means "beautiful slope" - a perfect description for our hillside vineyard site in the Yamhill-Carlton District of Oregon's Willamette Valley. Our inspiration comes from the exquisite wines of Burgundy and Alsace, and follows the guiding principle that great wine is made in the vineyard and merely nurtured in the winery. Our standard practices include organic & biodynamic viticulture, carefully managing vineyard quality and yields, and meticulously hand sorting the grapes that arrive at the winery to remove all underripe or damaged fruit. Our 3-level, gravity-flow winery is designed for gentle, natural winemaking in small lots, with minimal handling and manipulation, to produce premium wines of character and distinction. Belle Pente is owned and operated by Jill & Brian O'Donnell. The 70 acre property is located on a historic farm 2 miles east of the town of Carlton in the new Yamhill-Carlton District viticultural area. The vineyard site rises from 240' to 500' with south, south-east, and south-west exposures. The first vineyard was planted in 1994, and now includes 16 acres of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay. Our estate vineyard is supplemented with high quality fruit grown to our specifications in partnership with carefully selected independent Yamhill County vineyards. The winery is open on Memorial Day and Thanksgiving Weekends, and at other times by appointment. Read less

Rubberband, toast over herbal notes leading to very sweet honeysuckle pear, herbal flavors hint of petrol on the side of oily fat feel in mouth.
