Belle Glos Pinot Noir Santa Maria Valley Clark & Telephone Vineyard 2007
Why? Our best new discovery in the same style as the cultish Sea Smoke and Pisoni Pinots. We call this the Cabernet-lovers Pinot. PORTHOS INSIDER SCOOP: Chuck Wagner, founder of famed Caymus Napa Cabernet (Special Selection = $135/bottle) recently began producing just a few bottles of outstanding Pinot Noir and we say what took you so long!?! Anyone who has ever thought that Pinots are wimpy has never tasted an elegant Monster like this. Tastes? A classic combination of Burgundy complexity + delectable California fruit. Complex, rich smoky fruit cascade across your palate featuring a silky smooth texture with opulent layers of everything we love in Californias biggest Pinots: succulent dark fruit, Indian spices, dried spices, and a hint of black tea and tobacco leaf on the sultry finish. This is a truly sumptuous Pinot ready to thrill now (after 1 hour decanting) + will develop into an even more luxurious experience over the next 3 5 years so stock up now while we have a few cases of this rare wine available. Bravo!

Very ripe, with a racy, juicy edge to the wild berry and blackberry flavors. Also has a stewed plum and herbal-spicy edge, with a touch of tomato, though it comes off as a complex and well-made wine with a distinctive flavor profile. Drink now.
Dark scarlet, opaque color. Aromas of cranberry with spicy notes of peppercorn, cumin and ginger. In the mouth, pepper-spice notes give way to strawberry flavors and firm acidity. The tannins are silky but firm, the texture is mouth coating. The long, lingering finish combines notes of spicy tobacco and strawberry with sweet, toasty oak and hints of black licorice.
Just luscious, such a good, complete wine. Perfectly structured, its intricate acid-tannin-oak architecture captures delicate cherry, plum, pomegranate and cola flavors. Not a power-packed ager, just a gorgeous Pinot to drink now.
A combination of both rich fruit and spice is found in the 2005 Pinot Noir Clark and Telephone Vineyard. Notes of sweet plums, cherries, currants, loamy soil, and herbs are found in both the aromas and medium to full-bodied flavor profile.
This spectacular Pinot, which defines its South Coast terroir, is a great wine. The extracted fruit is massive, flooding the palate with cherries and raspberries, and the wine is well-oaked. Yet it combines its power with regal grace, which is what Pinot is supposed to do. Finishes with a silky, velvety harmony. Really an eye-opening wine, superb in every respect.
Deep garnet color. Aromas of ripe plums, brown spices-ranging from cinnamon to cumin-and rich, freshly turned earth, with hints of sweet caramel and barbecue smoke. On the palate, the flavors extend and expand on the aromas, from the array of spices to cranberry, coffee and even ripe blackberry. The tannins are soft and supple. The wine's firm acidity is a constant characteristic, from the first sip to the very long, fruit-filled finish, laced with notes of sweet French oak.
