- Roger Belland told me that 2001 required much more triage work than prior vintages and that he discarded approximately 40% of the crop. He prefers it to his 2000s and it's easy to understand why as the Belland reds continue to make impressive progress. In particular, the quality of his Santenay wines is nothing short of outstanding in the context of the vintage. The wines had just been bottled when I tasted them in February. (T.
