Bella Zinfandel Maple Vineyard Dcv 2010
A bit tight on the firm nose that shows a dry earthy edge to the sweet cherry and raspberry fruit. This shows off power and elegance in the mouth, decidedly red fruited with nice herbal freshness. The tannins are small, a little angular and balanced by decent acids supporting a somewhat dense and full midpalate. The firm finish turns richly black black fruited and slightly tree barky with spicy oak notes and a blue mineral edge. 91ptsAdd winemaker's notes
Bella Vineyards is a small, family-owned winery in Dry Creek valley specializing in limited production lots of zinfandel and Rhone Varietals.
RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Lots of oak here with deep, oily notes of cloves joined by dried herb tones and a fennel top note. This is lovely in the mouth, very transparent with a red raspberry core that shows attractive purity picking up earth-driven spice accents on the mid-palate. The tannins are crisp and well judged and the acidity is sufficient to keep things bright. There is an effortlessness to this wine that is attractive; it’s not the biggest nor the most intense, but it is persistent and shows admirable purity. This would benefit from being served at the table today, but I can see this aging well for up to a decade. 88pts
Low on the nose and gently sweet, with beautifully pure brambly berry fruit that seeps up from the glass. There’s some oak spice here as well, but it lacks the sweetness that one commonly finds in Zin, taking on more of a prosciutto/ savory tone than baking spice. On the palate though, that sweetness emerges and the spice ratchets into clove and allspice mode, accenting the low, dried blackberry fruit that fills the mouth. The back end here turns a bit redder toned and the spices dry out a bit, turning all dusty and faded with a gentle suggestion of green herb and vanilla that perfumes the fairly long finish. A touch monolithic. 88pts
Four and a half glasses
Lots of oak, vanilla, lavender on the nose - apple/stone fruit as well, which is unusual for a zin in my experience. Approaches the palate comfortably and delivers some nice fruit and tannins. Kind of a hot finish.
