Belguardo Rose 2015

Member Review by jtryka:

This wine is a lovely rose made from half Sangiovese and half Syrah that displays a lovely pinkish orange hue in the glass. The nose is a variety of fresh strawberry, citrus and fresh grass. The taste is remarkably dry, with barely a hint of sweet fruit, such that you might think you were drinking the red version had it not been for the color and temperature! The taste is wonderfully bright and crisp, with flavors of orange and pear, with a short, but firm finish. Rose - 90 Points, Wine Enthusiast / Ferrari's rose sparkler offers distinctive aromas of freshly baked bread and yeast followed by wild berries, stone fruit and citrus. The mouthfeel is intense and generous and this wine boasts a particularly creamy, full and satisfying mouthfeel.

Rose NV - 90 Points, Wine Enthusiast/ Layered, deep and opulent, this yeasty rose sparkling wine offers warm tones of baked bread, mature peach and honey with tart accents in the form of blueberry and raspberry. The wine delivers thick creaminess in the mouth and long persistency.

The pioneering Mazzei family, owners of Chianti Classico’s highly esteemed Castello di Fonterutoli, took the helm at the Belguardo estate in Maremma, Tuscany in the 1990s after recognizing the potential for superb quality winemaking in the local terroir. In the years since, the Mazzeis have established a name for Belguardo among the top producers in this exciting, fast emerging wine region. Belguardo’s logo, fashioned after a geometrical symbol sketched by Leonardo da Vinci, represents a union between precision and perspective. It is emblematic of the Mazzeis’ commitment to combining exceptional growing conditions with centuries of winemaking expertise to yield concentrated, complex wines that are extraordinarily elegant and aromatic. Production Area The Belguardo estate is located on the hills between Grosseto and Montiano, about six miles inland from Italy’s west coast. The vineyards for this rosé lay at an altitude between 230 – 426 ft above sea level with slopes between 10-19% and south-southwestern exposure. The soil is characterized by an elevated presence of sandstone. The vine density in the vineyards is 6,600 plants per hectare with spur cordon training. Apart from the unique position of the vineyards, the microclimate is strongly influenced by the vicinity of the sea. In particular, there are strong thermals in the spring and summer. The microclimate is characterized by low humidity and below average rainfall. Grape Varieties 50% Sangiovese, 50% Syrah Vinification The grapes were hand harvested on September 16th and then macerated on the skins for 12 hours. A temperature-controlled fermentation was carried out in stainless steel tanks at 57-61°F. Color Vibrant pink Bouquet Highly aromatic, with floral and fresh fruit notes. Taste An outstandingly clean and crisp rose, intense in flavor. Alcohol 13.7%

Rose 2011 - 90+, iWineReview.com/ Pale cream rose. One of the more interesting wines in this year's tasting, the Belguardo reveals a floral perfume with hints of toast and smoke that are mirrored on the palate. Interesting, complex and very dry with minerals and light fruit notes. Would be great with roasted vegetables. A 50/50 blend of Sangiovese and Syrah from vineyards in the Maremma.

Rose - SmartMoney/ "Ferrari is a lot of wine for the money", says [Bobby] Stuckey. "It drinks like really delicious CHampagne." No surprise, since it's made using the same method.
