A lovely wine, made from Alsacian variety Auxerrois, sur lie aged, 20% barrel fermented. Fruit flavors, with apple and lemony aromas smooth and clean on the palate with subtle hints of oak. A delicious dry white wine. Fabulous with grilled salmon.

We have subsequently expanded our winegrape vineyards to over 30 acres. Bel Lago wines are made from grapes grown in our family owned vineyards overlooking Lake Leelanau and Lake Michigan. The Bel Lago winery sits on a beautiful site overlooking Lake Leelanau. The tasting room opened in 1999. We have selected varieties carefully, to match the climate and soils to produce the finest wines possible. White winegrape varieties: Pinot grigio, Chardonnay, Auxerrois, Cayuga white, Riesling, Pinot blanc, Gewurztraminer, Vignoles, Seyval Blanc, several Muscats, and selected others. Read less

Highly recommended! Winemaker, Charles Edson, Ph.D., originally "discovered this variety on a trip to Alsace, and later enjoyed the variety in Luxembourg and Canada. First planted Auxerrois over 20 Years ago. The wine ages well and should be in its prime through 2016 (if you can find some). Bel Lago was the first winery in the US to receive a label for Auxerrois. This wine is 70% stainless steel fermented with 30% fermented in neutral (7-10 year old) French oak barrels, aged sur-lie to soften and further broaden the flavor profile, without significantly compromising the fruit.
