Bel Lago Vineyard and Winery Gewurztraminer 2007
Alsacian Grand Cru style, rich and full-bodied Gewurztraminer. This wine is fermented in small lots to ensure quality. 2007 vintage is very mature now, with a rich, pale straw-to-gold hue. Aromatically it’s very evolved, with a sense of dryness but a dense suggestion of sweetness. Shows perfumed flavors of spiced apple, kumquat, baked oranges, melon rind, zesty white pepper and a note of oriental fragrance. The palate is fresh but rich with a great Grand Cru style viscosity, vibrant and well-structured, nice and elegant hint of sweetness that comes from the sides bringing more toffee and nut flavors. Great balance, with finely tuned acidity and delightful fruit flavors, lychee and rose petals with ample amounts of spice in a wonderful, lingering finish. This wine could be a great example of a hidden-gem wine of a cool Northern Michigan climate. Thanks to the structure, this wine shows great potentials for aging. Only 150 cases produced. Mostly for a Bel Lago wine club allocation or distributed throughout restaurants.
