Editorial Reviews for Bedrock Zinfandel Saitone Ranch
A little creamy on the nose with café au lait elements framing the core of briary, muscular, dry earth inflected blackberry and wild cherry fruit. There’s a lot of spice here as well along with a lovely floral top note. Another wine with the impression of sweetness on entry, this follows it up with bright, lightly leafy bramble, red raspberry and blackberry fruit that fills the mouth. There’s a nervous tension to this wine, a little austerity that adds a mineral element on the palate, and drives some dry tannins through the long finish. A touch rambunctious, this needs a year to settle but probably will be best while the youthful fruit is still front and center buffering the tannins. The finish is tart and red-fruited with a red currant quality to it, but remains a bit raw. Front loaded and perhaps a touch simple. 91 points

Bedrock’s 2011 Zinfandel Saitone Ranch jumps from the glass with juicy dark cherries, violets and cloves. A rich, sumptuous wine, the Saitone Ranch boasts stunning depth and richness, but no excess weight at all. It is a striking, breathtakingly beautiful wine. Floral and mineral notes add lift on the bright, chiseled finish. This is a fabulous wine from Morgan Peterson. The Saitone is a field blend consisting of roughly 85% Zinfandel and 15% Petite Sirah, Alicante and assorted other grapes. Anticipated maturity: 2013–2021.
Bright purple. An explosively perfumed nose displays an array of black and blue fruits, Asian spices and mineral aromas. Sweet cherry-cola and blueberry flavors stain the palate and are supported by bright acidity. Silky and smooth on the finish, repeating the intense dark fruit qualities and closing on notes of candied flowers, woodsmoke and cola. Morgan told me that these vines were planted in 1896.
