Bedrock Napa Valley Zinfandel 2009
Score: N/A Tasting Notes: The first appellation Zinfandel from Bedrock! The backbone of this wine comes from the 92 year old vines at Morse Vineyard in Glen Ellen. A puncheon each of fruit from Rossi Ranch in Kenwood, Topolos Vineyard on Sonoma Mountain, the rocky and dramatically terraced Los Chamizal Vineyard, and a barrel each of Bedrock Zinfandel and Stellwagen Vineyard complete the blend. This is powerful but elegant stuff, and like most Bedrock offerings, avoids the over-ripeness and lunkiness of many Zinâs out there. The hope here is to show the spice, structure, and dramatic aromatics and mouthfeel found in great Sonoma Valley Zinfandel at a very friendly tariff. 18% new French oak, along with a few once-used puncheons. Bedrock is an itsy-bitsy winery making wine in a converted chicken coop. Fruit from only the most excellent vineyard sites is hand pitch-forked into the destemmer, fermented in open top redwood and stainless vats using only native yeasts, and are manually basket pressed by winemaker Morgan Twain-Peterson into the sexiest oak from the coldest French forests.
