Becker continues to to be the only Texas winery I can recommend categorically and with confidence. Their Malbec has a personality in a good way.
A lovely Malbec, found this at Costco. Reminds me of the 2007, (the 2008 was not as good). Dark berry, oaked just right, plum and smoke. Just nice. Been waiting for something like this - a case buy is in my near future.
Four and a half glasses
I have always been a fan of Becker wines after visiting their winery a few years ago. I saw this at a Christmas party and was able to have a taste. Very nice dark purple color. Medium to heavy bodied with plenty of spice that lasted throughout the finish. Tastes of cocoa and coffee were subtle but present in a background of heavy oak. Very well done Malbec.
This was a robust, full-bodied wine with heavy oak, maybe verging on too much oak. The flavors were rich and big with a mix of berry and dark fruit.
You always remember your first Malbec... very full, loads of spice and oak. The big body may turn some off, but if you like your reds with personality, it's a great wine.
