Beaux Freres Pinot Noir 2016

External Review:

Perhaps the most collectible Pinot Noir in America, Beaux Freres has set a standard that few can match. A partnership between renowned wine critic Robert Parker and his brother-in-law, the winery produces only Pinot Noir. This wine is from their estate vineyard in the Ribbon Ridge AVA which is the smallest in Oregon and lies within the Chehalem Mountains AVA. This is one of their strictly allocated single vineyard offerings. 2014 was an outstanding vintage in the Willamette Valley and the Wine Spectator scored this wine 95 points saying "Supple, expressive and multilayered, with plum, currant, pomegranate and violet flavors coming together harmoniously, persisting into the long, exceptionally well-balanced finish. Drink now through 2024."

Red fruits on the nose (strawberries, red cherry) and some earthy notes (mushrooms). Palate shows a lot more earth and even more complexity. Med tannins. Fuller bodies Pinot. Delish!

Perhaps the most collectible Pinot Noir in America, Beaux Freres has set a standard that few can match. Begun as a partnership between renowned wine critic Robert Parker and his brother-in-law, they recently sold their interest but the winery is staying true to it's mission producing only excellent Pinot Noir. The Willamette Valley cuvée features fruit grown on select vineyard sites in Yamhill County. The wine benefits from the same integrity in the winemaking process as the estate wines. The sites are farmed sustainably and managed to very low yields. It was aged in the same French oak barrels used in the estate bottling, however the percentage of new oak is intentionally lower. This cuvée consists of wine made from the following vineyards: Zena Crown, Beaux Frères, Gran Moraine and Upper Terrace. And as always it is bottled unfined and unfiltered. Wine Spectator scored it 91 points saying "Bright and tangy, with raspberry and cherry flavors that gain momentum as they push against fine tannins into a long and expressive finish. Best from 2018 through 2024." and Vinous scored it 92 saying "Bright ruby-red. Suave, oak-spiced aromas of ripe dark berries, cherry cola and minerals carry a zesty floral overtone. Silky and expansive on the palate, offering juicy black raspberry, cola and lavender pastille flavors plus hints of mocha and spicecake. Shows impressive clarity and spicy lift on a very long, fruit-driven finish that's shaped by even, slow-mounting tannins."

The Wine Spectator scored this 92 points saying "Soft and supple, plush in texture, this open-weave style offers blueberry, red plum and thyme notes, blossoming with gentle insistence. The tannins are nicely absorbed. Drink now through 2023." and Antonio Galloni scored it 91 saying "Brilliant red. Heady, spice-accented aromas of fresh red berries and flowers, along with hints of white pepper and underbrush. Fresh, precise and appealingly sweet, with lively raspberry and mulberry flavors picking up a candied rose quality with air. Shows very good tenacity and lift on the persistent finish, which is given shape by silky, fine-grained tannins."
