Beaulieu’s 2009 Red Blend Beaurouge is an attractive wine laced with expressive dark red fruit. Fleshy, juicy and radiant, this supple red will drink well for another few years. It is a nice introduction to the wines of the estate. Anticipated maturity: 2012–2017.

Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon form the core, with opulent blackberry and chocolate-cherry truffle expression. Merlot adds plush mid-palate texture. Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure. Zinfandel and Syrah contribute deep red-fruit notes and spice. Petite Sirah, Touriga and Mourvedre deepen the wine's inky color, while Carignan gives hints of strawberry. Grenache adds dark raspberry and bay leaf, and Sangiovese enlivens the wine with vibrant wild cherry notes. A splash of Petit Verdot adds a hint of violet.
