Beaulieu Bv Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2001
External Reviews for Beaulieu Bv Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
This age-old classic begins with sawdust aromas and hints of mint and green bean. Broad plum, berry and vanilla flavors spread across the wide-open palate, followed by a finish of mocha and coffee... on the sweet side, with fairly aggressive oak, yet it manages to shine and strut its stuff. Still, more definition and delicacy would elevate it further.
A profoundly deep nose of red and black fruit, with cedar, ginger and nutmeg. The sense of balance and grace is sublime, as layers of cassis, plum and cinnamon keep unfolding. The chewy finish is lengthy and elegant, and it should be held for no less than five years. This bottling honors its pedigree as California's first classic Cabernet.
Beaulieu's flagship wine does not have the volume of the best vintages, but it is still a beautiful wine, oozing black currant and cigar-box flavors. The dusty tannins create a lush, velvety texture that diplays great balance and charm.
Marked by hints of sweet oak, spice, herb, tobacco and chocolate up front. Powdery tannins support bright raspberry, blackberry, sage and thyme flavors. Howerver, acidity is on the bright side and clashes slightly with the tannins.
Classic Georges, balanced and ageworthy, yet riper and lusher than any Private Reserve in memory. Magnificently ripe fruit, rich in currants and cocoa, well-oaked, with sweet, complex tannins. Doesn't try to out-wow the competition in power, but the equilibrium is its strong point. Now through 2015.
A strong effort from Beaulieu, the 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve boasts a dense ruby/purple color in addition to a beautifully sweet nose of spicy oak intermixed with black cherries and currants. Full-bodied, rich, pure, and concentrated, it combines restraint and elegance with power and muscle. It will age well for two decades.
Rich and structured, overflowing with plum and green olive character. Full-bodied and chewy, with loads of tannins and a long finish. Needs time. Best after 2001.
